Dror for Lualdi
Highlighting Lualdi’s luxurious high-gloss finishes in a single fold
Along with David Rockwell and Robert A. M. Stern, Dror Benshetrit contributed to Italian door manufacturer Lualdi's collection of doors designed by U.S. based architects in 2010. Dror's design, affectionately named Davina, creates a subtle artistic gesture with a door that engages the wall in a minimalist touch.
A simple diagonal fold gives the door a playful two-toned depth that subtly reveals the inside door frame, creating the illusion that the door is slightly ajar. As the light changes and one moves past the door, the shifting shadows animate the space.
The single diagonal crease of the door is created by extending one of its four corners back to the opposite side of the door’s frame. This forms, in the most minimal way, a fracture of light that reflects on its lustrous high-gloss surface, and also alludes to the door’s inward swinging movement. The Davina door is available in red, black, or white.
